Blackberry Smoke have packed up their Gibson guitars and left Zac Brown's Southern Ground label, joining the roster of Rounder Records just in time for the February 2015 release of the band's fourth album, Holding All the Roses. Produced by Brendan O'Brien — the studio powerhouse behind records by Neil Young, Pearl Jam and Bruce Springsteen — Rosestakes its cues from the band's back catalog, offering up another sturdy, scuzzy blend of country crunch and rock & roll rasp. After logging more than 250 shows annually for most of the last decade, Blackberry Smoke took a fast and furious approach to the recording process, wrapping up the entire album in just over a week.
Like Blackberry Smoke, O'Brien hails from Atlanta, where he kicked off his career as a substitute bassist for the Georgia Satellites before pulling double duty as recording engineer and studio musician on the Black Crowes' multi-platinum debut, Shake Your Money Maker. Smoke leader Charlie Starr and the other four members of the band grew up listening to O'Brien's records, and their decision to record Holding All the Roses with a fellow Atlantan — especially after amicably leaving the label of Zac Brown, another hometown hero — smartly keeps the band's roots planted in the same soil that housed their earliest bar gigs.
"[O'Brien's] an old Atlanta guy," Starr told Rolling Stone Country in July, "and I think a few of us had met him and hung out with him over the years, way back in the day, but this is a new experience for us as a band. We recorded live [in the studio] a lot again, and we tried a few different things, as well."
When it comes time to promote the new record in early 2015, though, Blackberry Smoke will go back to their tried-and-true method of touring at a rugged, relentless pace. The 2015 shows kick off in early February and currently stretch as far as May, with the band playing iconic venues like Nashville's Ryman Auditorium and New York City's Webster Hall along the way.

Hey there brothers and sisters, friends and neighbors.
We hope this finds you well.
Another summer has come and gone. Some of us barely had any
really hot days to complain about (we know who that is), except
for Tucson and Vegas last week. Those two more than made up for
The Blackberry Smoke rock n' roll caravan continues to roll
down the highway, doing our best to bring you the finest
Southern musical experience that we can conjure up. As always,
thank y'all for spreading the word and coming to the shows from
coast to coast and everywhere in between.
We had the opportunity to play some great festivals this year.
Bonaroo and Peachfest were just incredible. Hell, Rolling Stone
even wrote a little blurb about our Bonaroo show. Although they
couldn't seem to resist bringing up sideburns, beards and denim.
No problem. At least we don't wear fedoras.
We enjoyed two wonderful nights playing with the mighty Gov't Mule!
Thank you so much to Warren, Matt, Jorgen, Danny and all for having us.
We send prayers out to the Gov't Mule family concerning the loss of Mr.
Brian Farmer. Our hearts go out to them in what must be such a horribly
sad and trying time. Brian was an amazing guy, as I'm sure you all know,
and his passing is a reminder that we're not long for this world, so
make the most of the time you have. Don't sweat the petty stuff.
A big thanks to everyone who got a copy of Leave A Scar Live!
We love it and feel like it's a nice documentation of the Whippoorwill
tour era. If you don't have a copy of it, give it a shot. You might be
Moving on, we've finished another studio album. It was recorded in
Atlanta and Los Angeles, produced by Brendan O'Brien. I guess albums are
like children and you're not supposed to pick a favorite, but this one
got all A's, made the team and won the state championship…WOOOO!!!!
We cannot wait for you to hear it. Hopefully, soon

happen… Then, the Skynyrd tribute show at THE FOX!!!! Yep.
Come out and see us.
We love you.
"We went into this project with the new songs that were ready to record. Working with a producer will really make you put your songs under the microscope. It's like brushing your teeth really good before you go to the dentist."
